Wensley Roofing History

Wensley Roofing was set up in 1987. The first business premises were in Washington, but in 1999 Wensley Roofing moved to the site that it still occupies in Chester-le-Street, County Durham. Since it was founded, the business has grown steadily and in 1997 it became a company limited by shares. In 2006 Wensley Roofing became part of the Northern Bear group.

Roofing Staff

We have a permanent workforce of fully qualified slaters, tilers, felt roofers and lead workers. Each working squad consists of a minimum of two men (one of whom will be the team leader). Team leaders report either to the Contracts Manager or to senior management. All the workforce have been awarded CSCS cards (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) and most have achieved NVQ level 2 or 3 in Slating and Tiling. There is an ongoing training programme designed to ensure that all operatives achieve NVQ level 2.

In the warehouse we keep a wide range of small tools and roofing equipment and one forklift truck. • Ridge tiles
  • Roofing felt
  • Lead
  • Battens

Our stock includes a significant proportion of reclaimed slates and tiles recovered for our heritage division, Matthew Charlton Slaters.

Clients and Suppliers

The way we work: We aim to develop long-term relationships with our key clients and our supply chain based on trust, openness and team work. By working together to agree objectives and performance measures, we greatly increase the likelihood of services being provided to everyone’s satisfaction – good quality, safely, on time and within budget. Since 1980 we have built up a network of trusted suppliers who completely understand our needs for top quality materials to be delivered on time. We are not reliant on any one supplier for any one product. Most of our general roofing supplies are sourced from local or regional businesses.
